Zahava’s peace pendants were a lifesaver for me as a first year teacher. Many of the students in my first grade classroom came from unstable households and carried many of their social emotional obstacles into the classroom. My students struggled greatly to resolve conflicts with their peers, often resulting in breakdowns and physical altercations. Zahava made peace pendants for each one of my students which were immediately a huge hit! Every morning, we acted out potential conflicts that could arise during the day. We used the peace pendants to demonstrate how to effectively resolve the conflicts. After only a short week or two of modeling, students began to show signs of improvement. Without prompting, many children used their peace pendants independently in order to deal with issues pertaining to sharing, hurt feelings, etc. Not only were they effective, but my students loved them just as much as I did! Every morning, they would practically beg me to put on their peace pendant as soon as they walked into the room. They loved proudly walking throughout the school showing them off!
